British actor, director Alan Rickman passes away after a long battle with cancer.
Known for portraying the multi layered character of Professor Snape in the popular film franchise, Harry Potter, he breathed his last as his long fight with cancer finally came to an end. He was 69 years of age, and was surrounded by his family and friends during this difficult time.
It was not just the silver screen that he made his home but also was well known for his theater, playing both negative and positive characters.
Though he made is debut in the 1997 BBC film Romeo and Juliet, it was his villainous side as Hans Gruber in Die Hard that won him accolades from around the world. He went ahead to star in many films like Sense and Sensibility, Micheal Collins and even a comedy, Dogma.
But the role that made him a house hold name was his portrayal of the strict Professor Snape in the Harry Potter films. He was the one everyone loved to hate.
The news of his sad demise took all the fans by surprise and they took to various social media sites, expressing their grief and providing strength and support to his family during this difficult time.
