Tess Gunty wins the National Book Award for ‘The Rabbit Hutch’

The National Book Awards 2022 was announced in November and first time since the pandemic, the award ceremony was held in person.

Author Tess Gunty won the National Book Award 2022 for fiction for her debut novel ‘The Rabbit Hutch’. The book is set in Indiana’s low-income housing community. “Attention is the most sacred resource we have,” . Gunty  said in her acceptance speech, stating the books among the last places “where we spend the resource freely and need the most… I think kindness wins. That’s the point of this evening.”

Imani Perry received the National Book Award 2022 for non-fiction for the book ‘South to America’ and

Sabaa Tahir won for ‘All My Rage’ in the young people’s literature category. John Keene won the award in poetry for ‘Punks: New and Selected Poems’. Argentine-Spanish language author Samanta Schweblin won the award for the book ‘Seven Empty Houses’.
