On her way return back from Bangkok, Television and bollywood film producer Ekta Kapoor was detained at the Mumbai International Airport for alleged duty evasion, customs officials confirmed.
“Yesterday Ekta was found carrying personal goods for which she did not pay customs duty,” said a customs official. She was being questioned by the officers and was fined of Rs. 50,000/-.
When contacted Balaji Telefilms’ spokesperson said that Ekta was innocent and she had no knowledge of the existing laws.
Past few months we were seeing ample numbers of celebrities are being detained at the Mumbai Customs department for alleged duty evasion. Recently Actress Anushka Sharma, Steve Kean, Minissha Lamba, Sangeeta Jindal and Atanasio Monserrate were detained for carrying undeclared jewellery and other imported valuables and later fined heavily for violating the laws.
