Awards are one such medium which encourage people to work harder and excel in their field. To achieve the most coveted awards; our Bollywood brigade is always in race and try to serve their best on the entertainment platter.
IIFA Awards, officially known as International Indian Film Academy Awards ceremony, a 3-days event celebrated over weekend concluded on 7th June in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s beautiful, eye-dazzling capital city where most of Bollywood celebs marked their presence. Also, this is an event where Bollywood fans across the globe get a chance to meet their idols, top actors and actresses and interact with them. Given its popularity, a huge crowd was witnessed this year too, where stars and fans mingled amicably.
Let us have a look at the 16th IIFA Award happenings, a grand, glorious and prestigious event:
The anchors of the program were Bollywood’s ‘Gunday’, Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, who kept the audience engrossed throughout the event with their hilarious punch lines. Taking their controversial AIB roast spiritedly, they cracked few jokes on it in the beginning. Then, they took a dig at Roy film, with a punch dialogue, “The film should be called Destroy and not Roy.” Even recent debacle of Bombay Velvet became the target of their mockery, where they teasingly recited Johny Johny as Ranbir`s character is named Johny Balraj in the film. Their funny spirits didn`t limit here; further they went on to say, “Ranbir should be named Roti in the film because his co-star Anushka was called Rosie and that makes Rosie-Roti. And they both took the Rosie-Roti away from Anurag Kashyap’s pocket.”
Evergreen dancer Hritik Roshan’s performance was truly an electrifying one where he danced to peppy beats of his own numbers including energetic Bang Bang!, flowing Meherbaan Hua and dynamic Tut tu tu Mera! What cameras spotted during his performance was Deepika lip-syncing his songs and finding it difficult to control the urge to dance. After all, who doesn`t feel like grooving along with hazel-eyed dance maestro? It was not only Hritik, but Tiger Shroff, who considers Krish actor his mentor, too, showed off his acrobatic skills and wooed the public.
Any doubt for whom it was a win-win evening? Of course not, as we all were pretty sure about who will take the accolades home! Queen and Haider won the top honors at this event too with Kangana Ranaut and Shahid Kapoor bagging Best actress and Best actor award respectively. Also, these two films, took themselves numerous awards each which was at all not surprising as it was quite expected. Deepika was in the competition of best actress award as she was nominated for her performance in Happy New Year, but in the end, achieved a special Woman of the Year award. While receiving it, she said, “This award is for millions of women.”
A silent love story, if you decide to call it, was also seen when Ranveer went on to do PDA and indirectly proposed to her. When Deepika was on stage to receive her acclamation, Ranveer went down on his kness, sang Ram Chahe Leela from their film and held out a heart for her. In response to this lovely gesture, the gorgeous actress just blushed and grinned wide. This one was really an adorable moment of the evening.
