The New York Indian Film Festival is opening this on May 5. The festival is opening with Anurag Kashyap’s Ugly. Premiered in Cannes 2-13, the usual take on Indian corruption and systemic violence is another hard-hitting tale from Kashyap as always. After the mind-blowing feature of Gangs Of Wasseypur in 2012, Kashyap returns with Ugly this year.
“We are thrilled to be opening this year’s New York Indian Film Festival with Anurag Kashyap’s Ugly,” said Ashim Chhabra, Director, NYIFF.
Apart from Ugly, the festival will close on May 10th with Aparna Sen’s Goynar Baksho. A critically acclaimed Bengali feature, this movie is adaptation of Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay’s multi-generational story Goynar Baksho.
The centerpiece screening will be Geethu Mohandas’ quest film Liar’s Dice.
Quoting the director, “The full line up movies and other events will be declared on April 8th.”
