As always, there are quite a few interesting shows – new and returning – that start airing this April. However, this time around, the returning shows hold a considerably greater appeal than the new ones, both by critics as well as the audience. Here is a list of 5 shows that are worth watching this April.
1) Game of Thrones: Season 6
It may not come as a surprise to anyone that Game of Thrones has made it to the list this month. An instant success among viewers and critics since its debut in 2011, the live action adaptation of G.R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series is entering its sixth season this year. Game of Thrones is moving into unchartered waters this time as the show is parting ways with its source material and presenting original content before the fans. The buzz around season 6 has been huge since the fifth season finale with fans speculating about the fate of Kit Harington’s Jon Snow. The crew’s claims about season six being the best so far and having “television’s biggest battle scene” have raised the hype further. Most of the show’s original cast returns in the season six with additions like Pilou Asbækas, Euron Greyjoy and Ian McShane in an unnamed role. David Benioff and D.B.Weiss continue to serve as showrunners in season six.
Season 6 of Game of Thrones will premiere on April the 24th
2) Hunters
Hunters is a drama being produced by SyFy based on a novel called Alien Hunters by Whitley Strieber. The show’s plot revolves around the disappearance of the wife of a cop named Flynn Carroll, which leads him to the hunt for a group of “terrorists”, who may be from a different world. Hunters is produced by Universal Cable Productions and Gale Ann Hurd serves as an executive producer. Hurd is known for producing movies like The Terminator and Aliens and the shows The Walking Dead as well as its spin-off. Hunters stars Nathan Phillips as Flynn Carroll and Britne Oldford as Flynn’s wife, Regan. While SyFy’s shows are good, they never tend to go beyond that level. However, Hunters has an interesting premise and hopefully will prove to be an excellent and a successful drama. Hunters premieres on 11th April.
3) Game of Silence
Based on a Turkish series named “Suskunlar”, Game of Silence is a drama that will start airing on NBC this month. The show stars David Lyons as Brooks, an attorney from Atlanta who has an unexpected reunion with a childhood friend, and then sets out with him to rectify the mistakes they committed in the past, when a “secret” from their past reappears. Game of Silence’s remaining cast includes actors like Michael Raymond James, Larenz Tate and Bre Blair. The show is written by David Hudgins, who has previously worked on shows like Everwood, Friday Night Lights, and Parenthood. Niels Arden Oplev, who was previously associated with the hit Mr.Robot, will serve as the show’s director. While the names associated with the show are not popular, NBC does have a record of producing quality shows and Game of Silence has an interesting plot-line which will, hopefully, prove to be worth the watch. Game of Silence starts airing from April 14th
4) Orphan Black: Season 4
Orphan Black is a sci-fi drama which started airing in 2013, gaining popularity and positive reception from both fans and critics. The show has completed three seasons as of now and still remains prominent among fans. Orphan Black deals with the moral and ethical issues related to human cloning and has won several awards and accolades during its three-year run and is entering its fourth season this month. Most of the original cast, including Tatiana Maslany, Jordan Gavaris and Kevin Hanchard, return in the season 4 and Graeme Manson will continue to serve as the executive producer of the show. Much like the previous seasons, Orphan Black’s fourth season will also comprise of 10 episodes. Season 4 of Orphan Black will premiere on April 14th.
5) Silicon Valley: Season 3
There are no debates when it comes to the quality of the dramas produced by HBO. However, the network proved in 2014 that it is also capable of delivering quality comedies with the launch of Silicon Valley. The show opened to a great welcome from critics and quickly garnered a fan-following. Silicon Valley revolves around the lives of six young men who start an IT company named “Pied Piper” in Silicon Valley, USA. Backed by a compelling story and filled with clever wits, Silicon Valley is a parody of the start-up culture in the USA, often mocking it through the show’s situational jokes. Almost all of the main cast including Thomas Middleditch, T.J.Miller, Zach Woods, and Amanda Crew are set to return in season 3. Viewers can expect a yet another humor filled season set in the start-up world with Silicon Valley this month. Silicon Valley will return with its third season on April 24th.
