Country: Brazil
Translated by Stefan Tobler
Radaun Nassar, is arguably a Laurentian figure in the history of Brazilian literature. A mercurial author, who had stopped writing and taken to agriculture in 1984, after, debuting with Ancient Tillage in 1975, has been highly acclaimed for his writing. A Cup of Rage, a novella written by him has been nominated for The Man Booker Prize this year.
Cup of Rage deals with the intensely charged relationship of a chauvinistic, older farmer with a young, feministic erudite woman after a night of sex on his farm. Nassaur takes the reader into the very dark crevices of the society, cutting open the class and gender division, the chasm that produces obstinate anger, biased and destructive.
