Indian mythology cannot be comprehended without the Great Epic of Mahabharata. But, what if some parts of mythology are actually blended with factual history along with the medium of science to give to you an enthralling mélange of indocentric majesty? This book answers the question. Cue drum rolls, presented to you is The Mahabharata Secret, which will appeal to believers, non-believers, rightists, leftists, history buffs, mythology addicts, sci-fi fans and the curious alike!
The plot is intriguing from page 1 right upto the last line of the book. It revolves around an ancient secret which was mentioned in one odd book of the Mahabharata which was discovered in its actual form by King Ashoka and his courtier in the hidden terrains of north India. Following a trail of eccentric hints and riddles, followed by a a group of dangerous militants with an irrational and destructive objective, a group of friends discover the secret buried in the mahabharata, within the books of history and time.
The characters are pretty much apt for the storyline, albeit they lack depth. Some subtle side plotlines give a faint sense of amusement at times. However, given the theme and story of the book, the characters are wisely chosen and appropriately executed. More than depth, they have expertise which is evident throughout the book along with faint signs of bonding, a treat to read both!
Literary value is relatively less for literature enthusiasts. However, I would strongly suggest to focus more on the plot rather than the prose. In such a genre, the plot is what makes the book a must-read rather than the literary value. And The Mahabharata Secret has a very good and engaging plot to offer!
However, in my opinion, one thing that put me off was that the explanations, the correlations and the suggestions to ancient history was loosely held. The book lost its grip at some places. The characters appeared to be a little out-of-the-place at times and the plot loosened a bit, rather got extended a bit.
