Dr. Deepali Nandwani speaks to Spectralhues

Dr. Deepali Nandwani juggles between the tough job of a dentist, writer and a mother but amazingly handles everything so well. She already has two wonderfully written romantic reads to her credit. She has another one lined up for release very soon.

In a conversation with Harshita Srivastava, Dr. Deepali talks about her tryst with the pen.

Interview with Deepali NandwaniQ: Happy New Year Deepali Ma’am. So are there any New Year resolutions?

Ans: Wish a Splendid New Year to you too. Well, as the cliché goes ‘New Year resolutions are made to be broken’, I rather not spend my time on making them. I always have many ideas regarding things going on in my mind and I try to take them up one at a time.

Q: How did writing come into existence in your life?

Ans: Writing was always something that gave my thoughts a free will to fly high. Earlier I used to write poems, but never thought of getting anything published. My friends and relatives would appreciate and praise what I wrote and I would just smile and utter a polite thank you. Then, I started writing short stories and articles for magazines which were appreciated too. Then, one day I suddenly thought of penning down a light hearted novel. I didn’t know if I would make it but what was the harm in trying? So, here I am (laughs)!

Q: Being a debut author, what hardships you had to face while writing as well as getting your book published?

Ans: Being a debut author did not bother me one bit when I sat down to write. I almost felt that the book was already penned down somewhere in my brain so the words just flowed. As far as publishing is concerned, thanks to Mahaveer publishers I did not have to wait much.

Q: How did you juggle between the tough job of a medico and a writer?

Ans: When I wrote this book I was not working, but was a full time housewife because my little daughter needed me. So, to be exact the tough job was finding time to write. I quickly wrote down all I had in my mind, when my daughter took her one hour naps (smile). Believe it or not, it is tough to sit down with so many thoughts swishing round and round in your mind; they are asking for a let out and your little one is still smiling at you refusing to sleep (phew)! But, I completely enjoyed all my moments, in fact this book is kinda dedicated to her.

Q: Tell us something about your book ‘Love Tadka @ Wedding

Ans: The book is a romantic, lucid, enjoyable read and is written in a manner to which anybody can connect to. It is set in Punjab and is the story of how romance buds between two young people (Abhinav and Radheesha), amidst all the masti and glamour that goes behind making any Punjabi marriage successful. It also talks about the relationships we share, may it be the slap back buddy kind or just the sweet mom daughter kind and sisterly brotherly kinds. This book is like one bollywood movie which has appropriate songs for the spicy situations and the right tongue in cheek dialogues too. All in all, a very poetic, mushy romantic book; fun read for all age groups from age 16 onwards.

Q: How did you come up with the title of this book?

Ans: The title is Love tadka@ wedding. I wanted a very catchy title and also something to which the youngsters could relate to. Moreover, all the three elements, ‘love, tadka (masti of friends), wedding’ are the basics of this book.

Q: How close are you to ‘Radheesha’?

Ans: If you ask me, I am very close to Radheesha. In fact, all my near and dear ones asked me, “Is this your story”? It was a task to convince them that this was ‘fiction’.

Q: What kind of response have you received so far? Did you expect this?

Ans: I have received very good responses and I am overwhelmed. There may be still a few of them in flip kart. Most of the people told me, that they felt that everything was going on with them; so vivid and ‘come to life’ is every page of the book. When I got my book published, I knew it was a little different because of the traditional touch of Punjab in it, but at the same time it catered to the needs of all kind of readers and also ‘the heart is where the romance is’ so I hoped a lot of people would like it but never expected anything.

Q: We’ve heard that you love dancing. Didn’t you ever feel like taking dance as a career?

Ans: Yes, I love dancing. To fulfill my passion for that, I take classes for kiddies and enjoy seeing them move and dance to my tunes.

Q: How have your views changed about love with time? Does love hold the same meaning for you as it did when you were sixteen something?

Ans: I am a diehard romantic and I like to read novels too which are full of romance. I feel romance should always have a happy ending, so I don’t like books which have romance written on them but are full of complications and serious elements. Love should be cute and why get in the way of cute people aspiring for love. So, I am sure I have answered your Q: tion; ‘Love is Eternal’

Q: Tell us something about your second novel ‘In love with a Sleeping Beauty’.

Ans: My second novel has already released under ‘pageturn publishers’. The title is ‘In love with a sleeping beauty’. It’s a very mushy and candy floss type of romantic book. The girls would especially love it, because they will be able to relate to the characters (Ved and Ishiqa). This book makes for a valentine kind of romance and is perfect for gifting your loved ones.

My third book ‘Come! Plan my wedding’ is also on the same lines and is going to be published under ‘pageturn publishers’ again.

As for now, I am thinking of writing a story book for my little friends (my daughter and her friends), as they have been asking me, “Why no book for me auntie”?

Thank you for your time Deepali Ma’am, we wish you all the best for your future endeavour.
