Mayawati, the chief of Bahujan Samaj Party continues to keep the UPA government on tenterhooks. She said that her party has left the final decision to her regarding continued support to UPA and that she would announce her decision soon.
Ms.Mayawati said: “BSP supported the UPA government at the Centre from outside thinking that this government will not only weaken the communal forces but will also work for the upliftment of the weaker and backward sections of the society.”
She said that it was sad to find the central government engulfed in its own various problems and doing nothing for the weaker sections of the society.
She said that her party was ready for early General Elections. But her claim about being prepared for early polls may be no more than simple bluster given the drubbing her party received just a few months ago in the Assembly Elections.
Talking tough and keeping UPA on tenterhooks may be a way to drive a hard political bargain. She may not have much of an option but to throw her lot with UPA for the present.
