Cabinet Clears SC/ST Quota Bill For Promotion In Government Job

Amid the chaos in the parliament on Coalgate, the Cabinet has cleared the controversial job promotion Bill today. The proposed Bill will allow reservation to the Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) in government job promotions. Congress sources are saying that the bill may be introduced in the Parliament on Wednesday.

While UPA ally Samajwadi Party had opposed the bill, Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mayawati welcomes the move. BJP has not yet cleared their stand on this issue.

Recently Attorney General Goolam E Vahanvati raised concern on the Bill. He has advised Law Ministry to think twice before introduce it, as he fears that Supreme Court will reject reservation for SCs and STs in promotions in the government jobs.
