India retain the Nehru Cup after beating African giant Cameroon 5-4 in the penalty shootout. India win the Nehru Cup three times in a row. Wim Koevermans passed with distinction in his first tournament as Indian coach.
Gouramangi Singh scored the first goal for India in 19th minute. The Cameroon striker Makkon Thierry equal the score at 29th minute and Kingue Mpondo gave the lead to their team in the 54th minute. India captain Sunil Chhetri played the vital role and equal the score at 77th minute. The match ended 2-2 after 120 minutes and it went to tie-break. In the tie-breaker India held nerves and long urged victory came at the right moment.
