Sachin Tendulkar took oath as member of the Rajya Sabha today. He is the first cricketer ever to become the RS member. 39-year-old Tendulkar was nominated by the President Pratibha Patil along with actress Rekha and business magnet Anu Aga. Sachin could not take the Oath with them as he was busy playing IPL season 5.
Today Sachin took oath as member of the Rajya Sabha in the presence of Chairman Hamid Ansari and Union Ministers Rajiv Shukla, Harish Rawat and V Narayanasamy.
Tendulkar said that the Rajya Sabha has given him betterr position to help not only cricket but also other sports in India. “I need help from my fellow MPs. I would be happy being remembered as an MP who did something for the development of all sports and not just cricket,” Sachin said.
However the Master blaster made it t clear that his focus would be cricket. “Cricket comes first” he said. “…I am here because of my cricketing career. I cannot take any focus away from my cricket. That is where it all started for me. I will focus on my cricket and as and when I stop playing cricket, I don’t know, when I will start attending to other things. I don’t want rumours to start that I have stopped playing cricket. I will let everyone know when I will stop playing cricket,” he added.
Earlier current Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni congratulated Sachin and said, “Rajya Sabha is a new avenue for him and I am sure he will do well and contribute there also.”
