Salman Rushdie’s New Book – ‘Joseph Anton: A Memoir’ Will Release On September

Salman Rushdie’s new book, a memoir will be launched on September 18th, this year.

In the latest book, ‘Joseph Anton: A Memoir’, Rushdie has written about the time he spent hiding in UK after a fatwa was called by Iranian leader Ayatollah Khomeini in 1989 after his controversial book The Satanic Verses was released.

Rushdie has been accused by Muslim groups across the globe till date for insulting the prophet Mohammed through Satanic Verses and the book is banned in several parts of the globe including India.

In this book Rushdie reveals that the British authorities had asked him to adopt a new identity and new name for his security and he picked the name of ‘Joseph Anton’.

In a brief interview with the New York Times, the author said, “I made up a name from the first names of Conrad and Chekhov. I made it the title of the book because it always felt very strange to be asked to give up my name, I was always uncomfortable about it, and I thought it might help dramatize, for the reader, the deep strangeness and discomfort of those years.”
