Kanimozhi, Member of Parliament and daughter of Karunanidhi, arrested on 20th May in the case relating to 2G Scam, was granted bail yesterday by Justice V.K.Shali of the Delhi High Court.
Four other co-accused in the matter – Sharad Kumar (Director of Kalaignar TV), Karim Morani (Film Producer), Rajeev Agarwal and Asif Balwa (Directors of Kusegaon Fruits and Vegetables Pvt Ltd) – have also been granted bail.
Orders have been reserved on the bail petition of Siddhartha Behura, former Telecom Secretary, since his application has been opposed by the CBI. Justice Sahli asked Aman Lekhi, counsel for Siddhartha Behura, to file written submissions in response to the CBI’s contentions opposing his bail application.
But Kanimozhi and the others granted bail by the High Court could not be released on Monday since the order could not be communicated in time to justice O.P.Saini presiding over the CBI Special Court trying the case.Each of the accused has been ordered to furnish a bond for Rs.5 lakh and two sureties each for the same amount to the trial court.
Kanimozhi left the Tihar Jail today after completing the procedural formalities as directed by the High Court.
Sahid Balwa, promoter of Swan Telecom has also been granted bail – by the CBI Special Court presided over by Justice O.P.Saini. The application of R.K.Chandolia, the then Private Secretary to A.Raja, former Minister for Telecommunications, is still pending before the same CBI Special Court. However, A.Raja himself has not so far approached any court for bail.
