Thursday witnessed a great deal of happenings as the police fatally wounded a masked gunman who had opened fire in a movie theatre and taken captives in a small town of Viernheim, Frankfurt, in the western part of Germany.
Initial investigations state that at least around 25 people had been injured in the mayhem, with tear gas having a major role to play, however the police later dismissed the news. The incident erupted in the Kinopolis cinema theater that is about 45 miles to the south of Frankfurt.
According to witnesses and other sources, it has been stated that the man entered in the afternoon, just after 2 p.m. An employee in the hall thought he was just another filmgoer. It was after he took a gun out and forced employees to lie flat on the ground that everyone realised it was an attack.
The man is then said to have barricaded himself. He is described to be in his early twenties. It was then when the police came in and shot, rendering him mortally wounded.
Officials are yet to identify the gunman, and also suggest possible motives for the act.
