1) Maharashtra’s parlous drought

Maharashtra has witnessed tremendous drought in the past century. In this very year we have seen about 116 farmer commit suicide, according to Hindustan Times, and statistics reveal 300 million people suffering from drought.
The state’s water reserves have fallen way below its capacity and have now come to a mere 2% of the total water reserve. Farmers are struggling to make ends meet in some way.

2) Kolkata Gang rape
A Nepali citizen was raped in Kolkata in a moving car, when she had asked a passerby for directions to a place.
Reminiscent of 2012 Park Street gang rape, she was thrown out of the car and had then been taken to a women’s police station by a team of policemen who picked her up after a taxi driver witnessed and informed of the incident to them.
Prima Facie doctors have confirmed rape and the case is now under investigation. Three people have already been arrested.
The case comes only a month after the country was in huge outrage against the horrific rape of a 29-yr old law student in Kerala.
3) Dadri Lynching Case

A couple of months back Mohammmad Akhlaq, a resident of Noida was brutally battered to death by a mob of 100 people only because he was rumoured to be keeping beef in his fridge. Where the punishment for keeping Beef in Uttar Pradesh is only 2 years of rigorous imprisonment or a fine of up to Rs. 1000 rupees, the 55 year old Mohammad Akhlaq had to pay for it with his life.
The culprit was a BJP leader’s son, and other companions of his and have been charged with murder.
New evidence has recently come to light as a Mathura lab has said that the meat was that of a cow, while previously it was declared that it was a goat’s meat and not that of a cow.
Mohammad’s family have alleged foul play as they have continuously refused charges that they had consumed beef. They said that this is politics, they keep changing what the meat constituted of and that is not right.
The incident triggered a nation-wide outrage. Many film-makers, and other artists had returned their awards citing growing intolerance in the country towards religious minorities and other issues.

4) Sunil Pal’s atrocious statement

When it comes to statements that may offend people, comedian Sunil Pal’s abrasive statement against the LGBTQ community and the women of our society should top the list.
Sunil Pal, in an effort to take down AIB comedian Tanmay Bhat, said, “Half the audience of Tanmay Bhat are gays and lesbians who like his sort of comedy, because as it is, they want to only dirty the society,” while he was on air at TV9. Following this, many comedians have slammed him on twitter.
