In a yet another sensational attack, the Mujahideen militants have managed to infuse panic throughout and send an icy reminder to the Mehbooba Mufti-led government in the State of Jammu and Kashmir, on Monday, as two consecutive ‘shoot-and-scoot’ attacks took place that left three policemen, including an officer, dead in the State capital.
An outfit of the massive terror organisations, Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HuM), has claimed the responsibility for the attacks. The first attack had been carried out at the everbusy Zadibal market, at around 10.30 am, when motorcycle-borne militants opened fire at two cops from a point blank range. The two struck were later identified as Assistant Sub-inspector Ghulam Muhammad Bhat and Head Constable Nazir Ahmed Mir.
About an hour and a half later, another attack struck, this time at Tengpora that is some 10 km away from the place of first attack. Constable Mohammad Sidiq, one of the personal security officers to a local level politician Mohammad Abdullah, was shot dead. This is also being viewed as the first deadly attack on the security officials, ever since June 2013.
“It is a desperate act. We have seen, of late, that security forces have been getting very good successes. Entire leadership (of militants) and newly infiltrated groups have been wiped out. It is basically an act of desperation (by militants) to show their presence,” Jammu and Kashmir director general of police K Rajendra Kumar stated in his media statement.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti remarked that such attacks aim at derailing peace, and also conveyed earnest sympathies. “My heart goes out to the families of the slain police personnel and I hope that the perpetrators will be taken to task soon,” she said.
