Dhanush, the Tamil actor who has written and sung the song ‘Kolaveri di’ made up of English and Tamil words for his film ‘3’ said that he is overwhelmed by the response to the song.
The song became a razing hit – taking everyone including the singer by surprise. Big names like Amitabh Bachhan are fans of the song. More than 14 lakh views of the video have been reported on YouTube.
The song was released on 16th November by Sony Music.
Dhanush is reported to have said: “I am overwhelmed by the response. When we were recording the song, we never thought it would become such a rage. We didn’t have any plans, any marketing strategy to make the song a hit. It just happened. My voice is full of mistakes and that’s why it suits the song. I guess that worked for the song because it can be easily hummed.”
Dhanush said “When I was writing down the lyrics, I kept in mind all the English words that are used in the Tamil vocabulary. Words like I, you, me, how, why, cow.. I just framed them into sentences and that’s how I came up with the song.”
Reports say that the lyrics were written on a spur of the moment and the music was composed in less than half an hour.
The song is no musical masterpiece in a conventional sense. But it is catchy and that is what must have caught the fancy of a whole lot of people who are weary of classical music.
