Shiv Sena on Monday, stormed the BCCI’s office in Mumbai, protesting against the BCCI chief’s meeting with the officials of the Pakistani Cricket Board. This propelled the officials to cancel the meeting, which was scheduled for the day.
Close to the noon, the Shiv Sena workers crashed through the gates of the Board’s office located in the Wankhede Stadium in South Bombay, and were heard raising anti-Pakistan slogans.
Pakistan Cricket Board chief Shahryar Khan and the head of its executive committee Najam Sethi had arrived in the city on Sunday. The motive of their arrival is to get a confirmation on an India-Pakistan cricket series in December, for which a meeting between them and the newly elected BCCI chief was scheduled on Monday. However, it had to be called off after the Shiv Sena staged protests in the Board’s office.
Following the protests, security of the Board’s office was levelled up on Monday. Soon the Additional CP of Mumbai and DCP reached the BCCI office.
IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla “strongly condemned” Shiv Sena’s protest. “BCCI is a responsible body and will not do anything against national interest. Cricketing decisions should be left to BCCI. Cricket is a gentleman’s man and the spirit of the game expects same generosity and tolerance from those who love the game,” Shukla tweeted after the news broke.
Sanjay Raut of the Shiv Sena, however, told ANI, “It was not a protest, it is a feeling of the nation.” “It was not a protest, Shiv Sainiks entered, spoke with Shashank Manohar, raised slogans, tried to stop the talks with Pakistan,” Raut added.
