The hashtag #LalitGate that has been trending on Twitter perhaps has received the most consistent, continuous hysterical coverage after #AnnaKiAugustKranti. This could very well be true, not that we have any doubts about the numbers being inflated, causing a news revolution.
The newsbreaks related to the same have been truly earth-shattering. They included enlightening ones like “Raje sacking certain?”, “PM-Shah discuss row”, “Save Sushma Effort” and “Monsoon session fix”. There was a newsbreak for Lalu asking for a probe, one for Yechury’s reaction, and (this is the most hilarious one) even one for the great Arnab Goswami asking for a resignation. Goodness!
As the developments began surfacing in the case, the root cause of all needed to be given attention first. What is this Lalit-gate? Of course, a scam. Not a minor but a major, gigantic one involving two great personalities- the Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj and the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Vasundhara Raje. The news first began doing rounds around a week ago, and since then, it has received flak and brickbats from all, with Congress demanding the urgent resignation of Swaraj and Raje. However, their resignation would mean weakening and eventually breaking of the strong bond between the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).
While nobody from the party actually wishes to comment much on the same, there have been many leaders coming out in defence of Swaraj and Raje. Meanwhile, the tycoon Lalit Modi continues to remain in deep, hot waters, anxiously waiting for a clean chit to arrive in his name.
