8 security personnels on Monday, got injured and three killed, in the second attack by Naxalites in Chhatisgarh, in less than 24 hours of the previous attack. The second attack was a landmine blast by the rebels in Dantewada district of Chhatisgarh.
The impudent attack in Kanker district took place barely two days after 7 policemen of the Special Task Force (STF) were shot dead by the defiants in Sukma district. A few Naxals tried to sneak into a Border Security Force (BSF) camp at Chhotebetiya forest at the dawn. The forest is located in Kanker district’s Pakhanjoor area.
During the first attack by the Naxalites, a BSF Jawan (soldier) was shot dead in a cross-firing in Kanker district.
“The alert BSF jawans opened fire on rebels when they tried to storm the camp,” RK Vij, state’s head of anti-Naxal operations, said. He added that trooper RP Solanki was killed on the spot.
Vij also said that an insurgent was found dead at the attacked site and 3 Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) were retrieved during the combing operation near the camp.
Security deployment has since been escalated at the police and para-military camps at Bastar, a known Naxal camp, where the Naxals have been staying since late 1980s.
A long period of peace was suddenly broken on Saturday when 7 policemen were killed and 12 were injured in the Sukma district. Over 100 heavily armed Naxals attacked surrounded the STF personnel who were on a search drive in the forest.
