An unprecedented political situation has taken place in Bihar as the chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi refused to resign from his post and former chief minister and JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar was set to stake claim to form the government.
Majhi, who met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, has reportedly sought BJP support to retain power.
“Today I am very much the CM and will go on till JDU decides otherwise,” Mr Manjhi told reporters, adding, “On the floor (of the assembly), whoever gives us support we will take it.”
Targeting Nitish Kumar, Majhi said, “Nitish cannot remain without doing politics, he is trying to become chief minister…If he (Nitish Kumar) has numbers, why is he unduly worried?.” He, however, said that he would step down if he failed to prove majority on the floor of assembly.
Meanwhile, Nitish Kumar, who was appointed as the new chief of JD(U) legislature party, expected to stake his claim and parade the MLAs in front of governor today afternoon.
The party claimed that Kumar has a support of 97 JDU MLAs out of total 111 after sacking Manjhi as the leader of the party in the assembly which Manjhi rejected calling ‘illegal act’.
“Manjhi has bit the hand that fed him. He has wronged the party. Now the party will decide. It won’t stop,” JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav told reporters on Sunday.
