At least 49 lives were lost on Friday at a crowded Shia mosque in Shikrapur, Pakistan, as a bomb exploded amidst the prayers.
Police reports state that certain facts are yet to be ascertained, including the ambiguity whether it had been a suicide-bomber or an explosive device due to which the explosion occurred. In the chaotic aftermath that followed, part of the mosque had collapsed with some injured underneath the rubble and debris. Bystanders and passers-by tried their best to help the victims, though there weren’t enough ambulances to ply them safely to the hospitals.
Sunni militants linked to the Pakistan Taliban are most likely blamed for the attack, with Jundullah, a splinter group, claiming responsibility. The state of Pakistan is apparently facing worst times, with this recent incident being the latest sectarian attack on the nation.
The military has been ‘hammering’ the rebels in the north-western part of the nation with the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif suspending a moratorium on death penalty in cases related to terrorism and alike.
