Sydney police announced ending of the siege at the Lindt Cafe in Sydney’s Central Business District on Monday night as they stormed the window to free the hostages from a gunman.
2 hostages were dead and remaining hostages were free including Indian Infosys employee. The gunman was also killed in the siege.
The Sydney cafe had been under siege for over 17 hours by a gunman as the Australian police launched its biggest ever rescuing operations.
The police have identified the Hostage taker as Iranian refugee cleric Haron Monis, who took the title ‘Sheikh’ after shifting to Australia. The same man, who believed in Islamic declaration of faith, has been convicted of sexually assaulting 7 women.
Meanwhile, in India the Delhi Police tighten up the security in the capital following the Sydney café incident.
“We are always alert to the security needs of the city, and all the necessary steps have been taken to ensure the same,” Delhi Police commissioner BS Bassi said.
