Veteran Bollywood actor Deven Verma died at Sahyadri Hospital in Pune on Tuesday morning following a severe heart attack and kidney failure. He was 78.
Announcing the news, Arup Kumar, brother of Verma’s wife, said, “He had been unwell for the last one-and-a-half years. He had diabetes since the last 35 years. Off late, he had developed heart problem as well. He was hospitalised on Monday evening and was in the ICU. At about 1.45 am, he passed away.”
Known for his comic roles, Deven had acted in several cult films like Angoor, Golmaal, Rang Birangi, Chori Mera Kaam, Chor Ke Ghar Chor, ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’, ‘Ishq’, ‘Kya Kehna’. He had worked with eminent directors like Basu Chatterji, Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Gulzar. His last Hindi film was ‘Calcutta Mail’ in 2003.
His last rite will be performed today afternoon at Yerwada.
