The winter session of parliament begins today with adjournment after paying tribute to late union minister Murli Deora, Trinamool Congress MP Kapil Krishna Thakur and some former MPs who died recently.
After an all-party meet on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “Unitedly, all important issues can be taken forward.” Except TMC, 26 parties had attended the meet yesterday.
“The people have given us the responsibility of running the government but all MPs have the responsibility of running the country,” Modi told reporters on his way into Parliament on Monday.
“In this cold weather and with a cool mind, we have to do a lot of work,” he said, adding that he expects the opposition will play “a constructive role”.
Meanwhile, the Shiv Sena has said that it will continue supporting government in the Parliament.
The 67 bills are waiting for approval in the parliament. The session would end on December 23. The government is determined to push Insurance Bill and Goods and Service Tax (GST) Bill.
The opposition parties, however, joined hands to oppose Insurance Bill, the land acquisition bill and the MNREGA.
Congress is, however, yet to reveal its decision on some bills including insurance one.
“We will decide when the bill comes to the floor of the House,” said Mallikarjun Kharge said.
