For the first time in last eight years, the Republicans have secured a majority in the mid-term elections of United States. Republican governors in Wisconsin and Florida have been re-elected and republicans have also secured stronghold seats of democrats.
Seats in Arkansas, Colorado, Montana, North Carolina, South Dakota, West Virginia and Iowa, which were strongly held by democrats, have been won by the republicans, enough for them to stand victorious in these Senate elections.
Washington Post reported that in Senate races, Democrats appeared to have kept just one of the states they had spent two years and millions of dollars trying to save – New Hampshire, where incumbent Jeanne Shaheen defeated Scott Brown (Republican) and the former Massachusetts senator who has moved across the state line to run again from his vacation home.
USA today quoted Republican House Speaker, John Boehner as saying: “We are humbled by the responsibility the American people have placed with us, but this is not a time for celebration. It’s time for government to start getting results.”
From Iowa Joni Ernest has emerged as the first female senator by defeating Democrat Bruce Braley. Washington Post quoted Ernest as saying: “We are heading to Washington.?.?. and we are going to make ’em squeal!”
Scott Walker from Wisconsin and Rick Scott from Florida, both Republican governors have been re-elected in this mid-term polls.
The Newyork Times quoted ReincePriebus, chairman of the Republican National Committeeas saying: “Barack Obama has our country I a ditch, and many of his lieutanants running for senate were right there with him. The punishment is going to be broad and is going to be pretty serious.”
Senator Rob Portman of Ohio, vice chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee said, “I think it’s a message from the American people about their concern about the direction of the country, and the competency of the current administration.”
Economic dissatisfaction and anger towards President Obama are believed to be the reasons why people have chosen republicans in most of the seats. This reason is believed to have driven Republican’s in 7 democrats stronghold seats.
