A tropical cyclone Hudhud is set to hit the Odisha and Andhra coast on October 12 as the met departments said that the storm is gaining strength over the Bay of Bengal.
It has already battered areas in Andaman and Nicobar islands by uprooting trees, causing landslides and cutting power and disturbing phone networks.
Cyclone Hudhud is moving towards the Odisha coast and will hit up to 140 km per hour and expected to bring heavy rains and storm around the coastal areas on Sunday. Kolkata is also to get more rain along with Vishakhapatnam and Gopalpur.
In a stamen Indian Meteorological Department said, “It is now crossing the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Thereafter, the system would continue to move west-northwestwards, intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm during the next 24 hours and subsequently into a very severe cyclonic storm during the subsequent 36 hours.”
