Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has called for peace in Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh after two people were killed and 19 were injured on Saturday in a clash between two groups allegedly fought over disputed construction.
“I am deeply saddened to hear of clashes in Saharanpur. Violence, divisiveness and hatred have no place in our country. This politics of hatred must end. I appeal to everyone to remain calm and refrain from fanning communal passions,” Rahul Gandhi said in a statement.
The authorities have been imposed curfew in the area and the situation is reportedly under control now.
Meanwhile, Rahul slammed the BJP and Shiv Sena for having a “dangerous ideology” and playing a “politics of bullying.”
“It is the ideology of BJP and the Shiv Sena. Politics of bullying people is what they do. This is extremely damaging to the country and this is what we in the Congress party fight against everyday,” Rahul said.
