The tension between Israel and Gaza Strip is resulting in heavy attacks on Israel. According to the officials, 23 people lost their lives in an attack that took place on Wednesday. This attack came in as Hamas fired rockets on cities belonging to Israel.
Hamas launched several missiles towards Jerusalem on Tuesday night but did not hit the city, reported the BBC world news. The Israeli army claimed that 70 rockets were fired from Gaza.
Sirens went on in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv several times after which residents and localities began running helter-skelter for their lives.
All this while, the Israeli Defence Force remained determined to fight the militants even as attacks were reported in crucial cities of Israel. The IDF (Israel Defence Force) claimed that 117 rockets struck Israel in the past 24 hours and an additional 29 were intercepted by the Iron Dome. A rocket fired from Haza also hit Israel’s capital Jerusalem and another rocket from the Gaza strip hit the city of Hadera.
The Israel Defence Force on its twitter handle claimed that Hamas is responsible for the rocket barrage fired at Israel in the past few minutes. It further said that the IDF will respond firmly to their attacks.
Another tweet from them said that #Hamas has begun targeting #Israel from the air, sea & ground. While combatting the infiltration by the terrorists, 4 militants were killed by the IDF while 1 soldier was slightly injured.
- Operation ‘Protective Edges.’
These attacks on Israel are coming in after it launched an offensive in the Gaza strip.
Gaza strip shares a 51 kilometre border with Israel. Since 2007, the Gaza strip has been de-facto government by Hamas, a Palestinian faction claiming to be the legitimate representative of the Palestinian National Authority and the Palestinian People.
The Israel Defence Force claimed that it struck 160 Hamas terror sites in Gaza last night.
Commencing the operation Protective Edges, the Israel Defence Force had earlier targeted approximately 50 terror sites.
According to the details put up on the IDF blog: Among the targets are 4 activity sites utilized by Hamas operatives who are responsible for numerous rocket attacks and were involved in various terror activities against the State of Israel.
The activity sites that were targeted were utilized by the following operatives:
Ei’adSakik, a Hamas terrorists in Gaza, involved in rocket terrorism against the State of Israel.
Abdullah Hshash, a Hamas terrorist in Rafah, involved in rocket terrorism against the State of Israel during the past few weeks and in the past as well.
Samer Abu Daka, a Hamas terrorist in Khan Yunis, involved in terrorist activity against the State of Israel.
Hassan Abdullah, a Hamas terrorist in Khan Yunis, involved in rocket terrorism against the State of Israel during the past few weeks.
Gaza terrorists have fired more than 450 rockets at Israel since the beginning of the year. The attacks have sent thousands running into bomb shelters, threatening 3.5 million Israeli lives.
Since Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005, terrorists from the strip have fired more than 8,000 rockets into Israel.
Although Israel’s Iron Dome Missile Defence system stops some of the attacks, most rockets are capable of reaching Israel’s biggest cities. More than half a million Israelis have less than 60 seconds to find shelter after a rocket is launched from Gaza into Israel. Many have only 15 seconds.
