The government today assured families of the Indian nurses who are trapped in violence-affected Tikrit town in Iraq. The government said that it was in touch with the nurses and will help them in every possible way.
On Indian government’s request, a team of International Red Crescent contacted 46 Indian nurses in Tikrit and confirmed their safety.
Earlier on Sunday government issues travel advisory to Iraq and also asked the Indians who reside there to consider leaving Iraq due to safety issue.
“The Government of India strongly condemns such attacks and firmly stands by the government and people of Iraq in their fight against international terrorism and in their efforts to preserve the unity and territorial integrity of the friendly country of Iraq,” the government statement said.
“The safety and security of the Indian nationals currently in Iraq remains a matter of serious concern for the Government of India,” it added.
The Indian Embassy in Baghdad has set up a 24 X 7 helpline to assist over 10,000 to Indians who live in Iraq.
