Anti- Modi comments are refusing to stop despite the government’s strict stand against the perpetrators. In another incident from Kerala, 9 students have been arrested. This arrest came after their magazine’s crossword section had a clue which was anti-Narendra Modi.
The magazine belongs to Sree Krishna College which is situated in Guruvayur in Kerala. A crossword puzzle in the college magazine contained a clue which was anti-Modi. The reporting of this matter bought the magazine under scrutiny and 9 students were arrested. Even the editor and the sub-editor of the magazine were arrested.
The Hindu reported that the police had registered the case against their students as the magazine was found to have used “objectionable and unsavoury” language against Mr Modi, garbed as a crossword puzzle.
This is the second case being reported from Kerala. Earlier too, a magazine of a Polytechnic institution was found to have featured Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the ‘Negative Faces’ section. This section contained other people like Osama Bin Laden, Adolf Hitler, George Bush, etc.
In this case, action was initiated against some students and the principal of the institution. The police there had penalized them under certain sections of Indian Penal Code. However, in the last week, they were granted bail.
In Bangalore, another student was arrested earlier for he spread messages against Mr. Modi through WhatsApp.
One day prior to Lok Sabha election results, Script Writer of Hindi Movie ‘Bullet Raja’, Mr. Amaresh Mishra was arrested for his tweets against Mr. Modi and RSS. Mr. Mishra was arrested from his house in Gurgaon. A raid was also conducted at his house after which he was arrested. The UP police also deactivated Amaresh Mishra’s tweeter account. He was charged under IPC section 66A of the IT Act and Sections 504, 153 (A).
Mr. Anuj Shrivastava, Editor-in-Chief of Novelist Magazine told Spectralhues, “Freedom of speech and expression comes with responsibility. No doubt social media provides platform to put your voice or views on larger recipients base but it should be used with responsibility and under the roof of laws, especially cyber ones. Defaming any person or Identity whether popular or common should not be the motive.”
Founder and Managing Director of Petal’s Publishers and Distributors, Mr.Harpreet Makkar said, “I guess, they shouldn’t be bothered, about what people are saying on social media’s. They got the numbers, we made our decision by giving them a clear majority, they got 5 five years to prove all of us right. And this is the only way to shift those anti-Modi ratio in favor of this govt.”
Sometime back, a Facebook post against Mr. Modi had led to the arrest of a Goa youth in Panaji. He was arrested following his remark on the social networking site. The court too had rejected his bail application.
Amit Pandit, Yuvasena’s Upvibhag Adhikari said, “I think that if anyone is trying to defame Mr.Modi by trying to comment against him and is trying to lose the home rule in the country should be hanged.”
He further added, “Even in the past, some Facebook posts against Bala Saheb Thackeray and Shivaji Maharaj were put up and attempts were on to try and defame Mr.Modi.”
This is agreeable that citizens of the country avail Freedom of Speech but this freedom can be used to discuss and debate in a healthy manner. By abusing, insulting of defaming someone, no one can justify this freedom. Simply, criticizing somebody is not the way one should express this freedom. Just because we possess Freedom of Speech, we shouldn’t misuse it by posting objectionable remarks against anybody.
On another hand, the Modi government too must not bother much about such remarks as everybody in this world is criticized. They have been given a chance by the people of India to rule and they must prove themselves in front of the nation.
