Clashes break inside Golden Temple

 

Amritsar: Situations at Golden Temple turned hostile today as sudden clashes broke down between two groups inside the temple premises.

Clashes break inside Golden Temple amidst an event  Slowly and steadily these clashes took an ugly turn when swords and knifes were being wielded within the temple premises during an event, marking the anniversary of Operation Bluestar.

Today is the 30thAniversary of Operation Bluestar and hence an event was going on inside the temple. Amidst, these clashes broke down between the members of Shiromani Akali Dal and SGPC task force while the event was going on.

Amritsar Police Commissioner told PTI that the situation took an ugly turn when SAD (Amritsar) head Simranjeet Singh Mann along with his supporters allegedly forcibly tried to deliver a message from the rostrum of Akal Takht. After he denied speaking by the Akal Takht Jathedar, these clashes broke down.

Clashes break inside Golden TempleAt least five people were injured in these clashes that persisted for half an hour or so. Media Persons who rushed the incident spot to cover the story too, were manhandled. Seven people have been arrested so far by the police. The situation is currently under control.

SAD condemned these clashed that broke down within the Golden Temple premises.

Operation Blue Star was an Indian military operation in 3–8 June 1984, ordered by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in order to establish control over the Harmandir Sahib Complex in Amritsar, Punjab and remove Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and his armed followers from the complex buildings.

golden templeFour months after the operation, on 31 October 1984, Indira Gandhi was assassinated by Satwant Singh and Beant Singh, two of her Sikh bodyguards, in what is viewed as an act of vengeance. Subsequently, more than 3,000 Sikhs were killed in the ensuing anti-Sikh riots.
