After AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh, another Senior Congress leader’s name has been surfacing who could take on BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in Varanasi Lok Sabha seat.
Former Congress spokesman Rashid Alvi has written a mail to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, seeking her permission to fight polls against Narendra Modi in Varanasi constituency.
For the first time, the idea of secular India is under threat…. I would request you to permit me to contest against Modi from Benares”, Alvi wrote to Sonia Gandhi.
Union Minister Anand Sharma has also joined the chorus to contest against Modi in Varanasi.
The pressure on Congress high command is mounting to announce a “formidable” candidate against Modi in Varanasi. Already AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal announced his candidature from here against Modi.
The sources are telling that Congress could announce its candidature within next couple of days. he party is reportedly considering few local names who can take on Narendra Modi in Varanasi.
Congress has already field Madhusudan Mistry against Modi in Vadodara.
