After a meeting with Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav doctors in Uttar Pradesh have called off their on-going strike. The news came at a time when the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court yesterday took a suo moto cognisance on the doctors’ strike and ordered a judicial probe into the matter.
The doctors have been protesting for the last five days against the brutality against their colleagues at Kanpur GSVM Medical College. Teachers of some colleges had also resigned and joined the protest. The strike was called after police arrested two dozen junior doctors in Kanpur following a brawl with Samajwadi Party leader Irfan Solanki.
Although chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has assured to probe the matter but the strike continues in demand of action against SP MLA Irfan Solanki and Kanpur SSP Yashaswi Yadav.
Allahabad high court had earlier asked the doctors to call off their strike and return to work immediately.
Meanwhile UP government has invoked Essential Services Maintenance Act (Esma) against doctors on Wednesday as the health service in the sate deteriorating and patients are suffering immensely.
