President’s rule has been imposed in Delhi on Monday after President Pranab Mukherjee has accepted the Arvind Kejriwal government’s resignation.
“The President, on the advice of Union Cabinet, has imposed President’s rule in Delhi. The resignation of Arvind Kejriwal, chief minister of Delhi, along with his council of ministers, has been accepted by the President with immediate effect,” Delhi’s LG Najeeb Jung issued a statement on Monday.
Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde also briefed the Lok Sabha on President’s acceptance of cabinet recommendation to impose president’s rule in Delhi.
Former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had resigned on Friday over the failure of tabling the Jan Lokpal Bill. His cabinet also resigned along with him. AAP government recommended LG to dissolve the assembly with immediate effect and hold fresh polls. However, the President kept assembly in suspended animation.
