A brilliant performance from the Reds saw the Premier League topper Arsenal slumping to season’s worst defeat in a Saturday evening clash at the Anfield. The 18-time English champions beat the Gunners by a scoreline of 5-1 to consolidate the fourth position in the league table.
Arsenal who has been in great run this season had a miserable start as the fell behind in the first 20 minutes by 4 goals. Martin Skrtel opened the scoring for the home side in 1st minute of the match, doubling it up with a strong header in the 9th minute that also found the back of the net much to the displeasure of the Arsenal fans. The Merseysiders then began playing some unbelievable football adding to those very early goals through Raheem Sterling in the 16th minute and through Daniel Sturridge in the 19th minute. Arsenal simply had no clue to the Liverpool attacks. The change of ends did not bring any change to the luck of Arsenal as Sterling doubled his tally in the evening giving the Reds a 5-0 lead in the 52nd minute. There was less than what can be called a consolation goal for the London side in the 68th minute when Steven Gerrard brought down Alex Oxlade-Chamberlaine in the penalty box. Arteta got one back for the visitors as he did not make any mistake from the spot.
It was a match that will be remembered by the Liverpool fans for a long time as they haven’t tasted such comprehensive victories for a long time. It is the time for the Liverpool fans to rejoice as their team is now 5 points behind league leaders Arsenal and 5 clear of Everton.
