Telangana issue rocks Parliament

As expected the Telengana issue rocked the first day of the last parliament session of 15th Lok Sabha on Wednesday. Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar has forced to adjourn the house till Thursday.

MPs cutting across s the Seemandhra region protested on the well of both houses of the parliament soon the session began earlier today. With slogan against government’s decision to create separate state of Telengana, the MPs carried out the placards saying ‘Jai Samaikya Andhra Pradesh’.

Although the government has announced that it will introduce the Bill in the Rajya Sabha, but the possibility is highly unlike. Congress’s own MPs from Andhra Pradesh threatened to move a no-confidence motion against the government over Telangana issue.  V Arun Kumar, Congress MP from Rajhamundry has moved no-trust motion against the UPA government.

Meanwhile Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy has begun his dharna against the bifurcation of the state at the Jantar Mantar in Delhi. He has been joined by several Andhra leaders from the Seemandhara region. The union ministers like M. Pallam Raju, K. Samba Siva Rao, D Purandeswari, Killi Kruparani and K. Chiranjeevi have also joined the dharna.

“In its current form it, does not do justice to any region. Major concerns related to water and security of people living around Hyderabad have not been adequately addressed,” Union minister.

“It is people’s anguish we are representing here,” K. Chiranjeevi said.

Yesterday, the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had said that his government is determined to pass the Telangana in the Parliament.

“There is the vital issue of Telangana and we will be bringing a bill before the parliament for its approval. I sincerely hope that after a long debate extending over many years, the house in its wisdom will be able to pass the bill relating to creation of state of Telangana,” Manmohan Singh had said.

“This is going to be the last session of the 15th Lok Sabha. There are important legislations pending for approval by the parliament. There are several important legislations relating to the anti corruption measures,” he had added.

The Andhra Pradesh Assembly had rejected the draft Bill to create a separate state of Telangana.
