The cabinet approves Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s demand of raising subsidized LPG cylinders cap from 9 to 12 per household. The new quota will be applied from February 1.
“From February 1, every month one subsidized cylinder will be available to each household,” oil minister M Veerappa Moily announced on Thursday.
At the recently concluded AICC meet, Rahul Gandhi had urged Prime Minister to raise the quota to 12 LPG cylinders per year per household. Customers now have to buy cylinder at the market rate of Rs 1,270 per cylinder in Kolkata after exceeding the limit of subsidized 9 cylinders which costs Rs 417 per cylinder.
