Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will meet union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde this evening to discuss the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. Kejriwal will demand the suspension of the cops who refused to act against an alleged prostitution racket on Wednesday following Law Minister Somnath Bharti’s order. The Delhi Police has earlier rejected AAP’s demand of taking action against those police.
“We are demanding … we are warning Delhi Police. Delhi Police is highly compromised,” Kejriwal told reporters.
Meanwhile Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung has ordered a probe into the recent scuffle between the Delhi Police and the Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti. A retired judge will inquire the matter and submit the report to the governor within 30 days.
“Suspension is a must because a message has to go to the people that action has been taken against incapable officers,” AAP minister Manish Sisodia told reporters.
“Governance is not about sitting in offices but to take action. Action needs to be taken against the police in all three matters,” Sisodia added.
“The motive was to show that there is a drug racket and nothing has been done. This is not a Sheila Dikshit government. Whether the Delhi Police comes under us or not, we will teach them a lesson,”” he said.
“If a locality has been complaining about drug and sex racket and it’s making difficult for women in the locality to roam around. What kind of law is this that the police can’t make arrests? It’s been 48 hours the drug racket is still flourishing in that area,” Sisodia hits out at Delhi Police.
