Former Miss Venezuela shot dead

Former Miss Venezuela, Monica Spear (29), was shot dead by a group of gunmen on late Monday. She along with her partner Thomas Henry Berry (39) was killed in front of their five-year-old daughter on a highway in northwestern Venezuela.

The initial investigation suggests they were robbed before killing. The daughter, Maya Berry Spear, was injured and is stable after receiving medical assistance.

Venezuelan police have arrested five people in connection with the killings. President Nicolas Maduro promised action against the crime.

“This is a massacre,” said Maduro. “This violence is a sickness that we have, I take my responsibility to the maximum,” the President said adding, “whoever wants to kill will see an iron hand.”

The model-actor lived in the United States and was on her holiday in Venezuela at the time of her death.
