Togo has released Indian merchant ship captain Sunil James early on Thursday along with other captured Indian sailor, Vijayan.
Confirming the news Ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said, “After meet between India’s High Commissoner in Accra and President Gnassingbe of Togo, Captain Sunil James and Vijayan released. Now with High Commissioner K. Jeeva Sagar.”
While reporting an attack on his ship MT Ocean Centurion by pirates in Togo on July 31 Captain Sunil James was arrested along with two other crew members in suspect of Pirates aiding.
James’ family has been seeking his release to Indian government so that he could come back to India for last rites of his 11-month-old son Vivaan who died in a Mumbai hospital earlier this month.
