Deadly violence erupts in Bangladesh following the execution of Jamat leader Abdul Quader Mollah on Thursday night. Bangladesh government did not waste much time and proceeded with the execution order soon after the Supreme Court upheld Mullah’s death sentence, dismissing his last-minute plea.

The 65-year-old Mullah, convicted with 1971 war crimes, was hanged at Dhaka Central Jail at around 10:01 last night.

Soon after the news broke people started celebrating on the streets in Dhaka.

Jamaat-e-Islami released a statement saying they will take the revenge for their leader Mollah’s “killing”. Jamat called country-wide strike on Sunday.

Meanwhile at least five people were killed in Chittagong on Thursday in clashes between opposition activists and police.
