Congress President Sonia Gandhi said it was a very disappointing result for the party in the all four major states and called for deep introspection within the party.
“This result calls for deep introspection. We have to understand to look at the many reasons for this defeat. We have to look into the way we did not take our message to the people,” Sonia said.
“Also, we have to look at our own party if it is well equipped in running an election (campaign),” she added.
Sonia admitted that people are unhappy with the Congress led government and price hike is a major issue in people’s mind.
“Many people were obviously unhappy (with the Congress). Otherwise there would not have been such results,” Sonia admitted.
“We will introspect seriously and we will take all necessary action … We will rectify our mistakes,” Sonia further said.
Sonia Gandhi also said that she is confident that Congress will do better in the coming 2014 Lok Sabha polls and will come back to power.
“General elections are quite different. People in state elections do focus on personality at the state level, at leaders who are likely to lead them,” Sonia said.
