Sahara is back in the thick of the actions as the bidding session for the sponsorship of the Team India jersey logo is set to be opened on Monday in Chennai. The Sahara Group which expressed their unwillingness regarding renewing the terms with BCCI has reconsidered their decision and is most likely to take part in the bid to own the sponsorship of the jersey logo.
Reports suggest that requests from different grounds have contributed much to the reconsideration of Subrata Roy’s decision of buying the tender document. Former Indian captain Kapil Dev was quoted saying, “I personally called Mr. Subrata Roy and asked him to continue Sahara’s association with the Indian team. I appealed to him in the interest of the cricket community.”
Sahara currently holds the sponsorship rights of the Indian jersey logo as they are paying around Rs. 3.34 crore by contract for any international match. The validity of the contract expires on December 31, 2013. Other companies who have bough the tender includes, besides Sahara, Star, Sony, UB Group, WSG, Games Unlimited and Airtel. The base price is set at Rs. 1.5 crore and 60 lakhs for every match organized by ICC and Asian Cricket Council respectively.
