Veteran social activist Anna Hazare is getting ready for another battle in quest for a strong Lokpal Bill. He will begin indefinite fast from December 10 at Yadavbaba temple in Ralegan Siddhi.
Talking to PTI on Thursday Anna said that although he has asked government to pass strong Lokpal Bill in this winter session which is slated to start from December 5, but he doubts centre’s intention due to lack of “political will”.
Hazare admitted that he got the reply from Prime Minister’s office in which Minister of State in Prime Minister Office V Narayanasamy informed him various steps taken by the government to bring in the Lokpal Bill.
But Hazare said he is not satisfied with government’s answer and the government’s Lokpal bill is totally different from the draft Jan Lokpal Bill.
“The correspondence has been going on for last two years but without any result. Earlier, the Centre assured that the bill will be presented in Budget session of Parliament. The selection committee had passed it on Nov 23, 2012, but nothing happened even in the monsoon session also”. “…Now, the nation wants result and not the reason and that is why I will be observing hunger strike,” the Gandhian said.
The government had passed the Lokpal Bill in Lok Sabha in 2011 following massive public pressure. However the bill is still with the standing committee in Rajya Sabha.
