Spiderman is not very away when Batman and Superman is clean sweeping the international movie industry with news now and then. After the super-successful launch of the Spiderman franchise in 2002, with Tobey Maguire in the lead, Sony revamped the franchise in 2012 with The Amazing Spider-Man. This time the lead was Andrew Garfield. And, the second installment is about to hit the theaters on May 2, 2014.
At a meeting with the investors, Sony Pictures Entertainment Chairman and Chief Executive Michael Lynton told, “We do very much have the ambition about creating a bigger universe around Spider-Man. There are a number of scripts in the works.”
At a time when the company badly needs oxygen after a fall-flat series of box-office duds in 2013 – Spiderman is clearly seen as the rescue.
“Sony is working alongside Marvel and Disney”, Lynton told given the fact that Sony owns Spider-Man and the characters in his world, Disney owns the merchandising rights and Spiderman is a Marvel character.
