India hammers Australia to win by 9 wickets

Virat Kohli made fastest 100 for IndiaRohit Sharma and Virat Kohli played some outlandish cricket to lead India to one of the greatest victories in the history of world cricket. Chasing an imposing total of 359/5 India reached the target with 39 balls to spare, thanks to some scintillating display of stroke play from Kohli and Sharma. While Sharma scored 141 from just 123 balls, Kohli reached his century in just 52 balls and on the way became the fastest centurion in the history of the Indian cricket breaking the previous record of Virender Sehwag who scored a hundred in just 60 balls against New Zealand.

Earlier in the day Australia won the toss and decided to bat first. They made a great start through some watchful batting display from Phil Hughes (83) and Aaron Finch (50) which set up a great platform for the middle-order batsmen to set a huge total on a flat pitch. Shane Watson also scored a quick fire 59 before getting out on 59. Towards the end George Bailey (92*) hit the shikhar-dhawan-rohit-sharma-Indian bowlers at will as the visitors picked up 122 runs in the final 10 overs of their innings. Glen Maxwell also played a cameo of 53 of 32 balls to provide great support to his captain.

As India came on to bat in the second innings, Shikhar Dhawan got the hosts of to a flier and provided just the perfect start that was needed to chase such a mammoth total. The first wicket partnership of Dhawan and Sharma picked up 176 runs in 26.1 overs before Dhawan edged one to keeper when he was on 95. James Faulkner gave the Australians the much-needed breakthrough. However the wicket brought very little fortune for the Aussies as Virat Kohli came on and made a mockery of the Australian bowling attack. It was raining 4s and 6s at the Sawai Man Singh stadium in Jaipur as the spectators watched something really special from the duo of Kohli and Sharma. India completed the routing in 43.3 overs leaving the Aussies absolutely stunned.

India beat AustraliaIt was the highest ever run chase in the history of Indian cricket in One Day Internationals. Kohli’s innings of 100* will surely stand among the bests in the history of world cricket. His innings along with that of Sharma’s will send a strong message to the Aussie camp and that the loss in the first was a mere slip-up.

The action will now shift to Mohali as the two teams face each other for the third time in the series on next Saturday. The stage is set for some real action as the series is level at 1-1. While India will look forward to keep up their winning performance, Australia will look to make a come back into the series after such an exhausting defeat.

Match Summary:

Australia 359/5 (Bailey 92*, Hughes 83)

India 362/1 (Sharma 141*, Kohli 100*, Dhawan 95) in 43.3 overs.
