YSR Congress chief Jagan Mohan Reddy begins an indefinite fast today against the bifurcation of the state of Andhra Pradesh amid the 72-hour bandh in Seemandhra region.
“I request all parties to join me, I request Chandrababu Naidu as well (to join me),” Jagan said.
On Thursday, the Union Cabinet clears the Telangana statehood and the tension mounting in the rest of Andhra demanding the withdrawal of the decision. Six Ministers including Textiles Minister KK Samba Siva Rao, Minister of State for Railways Kotla Surya Prakash Reddy, Human Resources Development Minister Pallam Raju, Tourism Minister K Chiranjeevi, Minister of State for Commerce D Purandeswari and MoS for IT and Communications Killi Kruparani have resigned in protest of the decision.
TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu is set to begin fast-unto-death in New Delhi from October 7.
Meanwhile Congress is in soup and defensive after the fall out of the cabinet decision.
“We will take them into confidence. We will try our level best. After all, wherever there is bifurcation of any state, such feelings are there. It is natural. No one can avoid these. But we have to console them. We will try to console them,” Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said over the resignation of Andhra Congress leaders.
